Growing up in Hampshire, James Ruskin caught the hip-hop bug through the likes of the Tim Westwood radio show and the Electro Series on Street Sounds at an early age. When house music started seeping into the more progressive nightclubs James started to take note of this new and infectious groove. Via the gravitational slingshot of a Motor City sonic shockwave, the sound of techno swept him off his feet and has remained ever since.
Inspired by these new pioneering sounds James took up Djing, securing club bookings in the process. With like minded friend, Richard Poison, the pair started to develop their own sound and began building a studio until they were confident enough to release a four track EP that captured their own style. ‘First Contact’ by Outline became their first release on his own Blueprint Records imprint in May 1996 to critical acclaim. With the label gaining momentum James began taking bookings all over the UK and Europe… the rest they say, is history.
His Dj roster now reads like a well established CV. His skills have been witnessed at House of God (Birmingham), EuroBeat 2000 (London), U-Club (Slovakia), The Liquid Rooms (Tokyo), Club Rockets (Osaka), Atomic Jam (Birmingham), Geushky (Portsmouth), Ultraschall (Munich), Hurytan (Slovakia), Amorphous (Leicester) and Art Futura (Madrid) amongst many other prestigious venues and clubnights all over the world. James has been one of a handful of techno Djs respected enough to be offered a resident at the world famous Tresor club in Berlin.
